Ann Tracy

Impulse Gallery is proud to present Transmissions, an exhibition by the American artist Ann Tracy running from 17 October to 21 December, 2024.

Tracy, whose work spans painting, sculpture, and multimedia installation, draws from her extensive artistic training and engagement with contemporary social issues. Her career began with a focus on figurative abstraction, developed after her studies at Boston University, where she earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in sculpture.

Transmissions reflects Ann Tracy’s evolving exploration of her studio practices, as well as her response to social and political climates. Particularly since 2015, her work has taken on a more direct representation of women, often addressing themes of vulnerability, strength and empowerment. Tracy’s large-scale works tap into the gestalt of our times, each painting its own informational attunement whether she is using images of the human, animal, plant or landscape.

The exhibition will include an installation titled "They Never Died - Seven Roses" a collaborative work that integrates the poetry of Amy Hosig and the music of contemporary classical composer Marcelo Toledo. This installation reflects Tracy’s commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the sharing of artistic experiences through collective expression.

Ann Tracy has always maintained a close connection to the artistic and cultural movements of her time, whether through her work in New York, her current base in Zurich, or her creative pursuits in Tuscany. Her dedication to art began at a young age, and her life-long commitment to her craft has led to a prolific body of work that continues to engage with contemporary social issues while remaining rooted in her personal experiences.
