Overview
"My art is about love in the broadest sense of the word."
Belgian-born artist Wim Ricourt (b. 1963) is known for his intricate and poetic oeuvre, drawing inspiration from the details he encounters in everyday life. Ricourt's compositions are infused with a lyrical quality, driven by the spontaneity and intention of a poetic phrase. His work is characterized by a unique ability to find boundless creative potential in the most ordinary subjects.

Ricourt's unconventional approach combines water-based paints (Acrylic-Gouache and Aquarelle) with oil paint, creating a tension between the contrasting materials. This interplay is further emphasized on the shimmering aluminum surfaces of his canvases, where Ricourt infuses warmth into an otherwise cold material. At a distance, his images appear clear, but as viewers are drawn closer, they become immersed in a dynamic collage.

While landscapes of nature featuring flowers, ponds, and trees are essential to his work, Ricourt identifies the themes of attraction and abandonment as central to his creations. This constant push and pull, which he believes is inherent to love in flux, embodies love in its broadest sense, teeming with awe-inspiring contradictions. Wim Ricourt's mastery of contrast and his poetic vision make him an emerging and sought-after artist in the contemporary art world.
